In today’s fast-paced world, many young people rarely get the chance to see where their food actually comes from. That’s why the School District of Palm Beach County organized a special field trip this spring, taking students from Lake Shore Middle School out of the classroom and into the fields of R.C. Hatton Farms in Pahokee.

This wasn’t just any field trip. It was part of the district’s “Burke at Work” series, where Superintendent Mike Burke joins students and staff to experience firsthand some of the district’s most impactful programs. On this particular day, the focus was all about the farm-to-table journey and how local agriculture plays a vital role in the meals served in school cafeterias every day.

A Journey to the Heart of Florida Agriculture

The students, joined by the district’s School Food Service team, had the opportunity to walk among rows of crops, learn about the planting and harvesting process, and understand the hard work that goes into producing fresh fruits and vegetables. They spoke with farmers, asked questions about the equipment used, and discovered how produce travels from the farm, through processing, and eventually onto their lunch trays.

For many, it was an eye-opening experience — the kind of hands-on learning that can’t be replicated in a textbook.

Traveling Safely, Comfortably, and Together

To make this educational day possible, the district turned to FloridaTours.com, a school board-approved charter bus company trusted by districts across the state. Our role was to ensure that every student, staff member, and guest arrived safely, comfortably, and on time, allowing the focus to remain on the learning experience, not the logistics.

School trips require more than just transportation. They demand a level of care and attention that considers student safety above all else. That’s why FloridaTours.com meets and exceeds Florida’s strict safety requirements, with experienced drivers who understand the unique needs of young passengers. On this trip, students were able to relax in climate-controlled comfort, chat with their classmates, and look forward to the day ahead — all without the stress of navigating traffic or finding parking.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

The farm visit sparked conversations about healthy eating, sustainability, and the importance of local food systems. Students left with a deeper appreciation for the people who grow their food and the journey it takes before it reaches their plates. For some, it may even inspire future careers in agriculture, nutrition, or environmental science.

Educational experiences like these show the power of combining thoughtful programming with reliable transportation. Whether it’s a farm visit, a science museum, or an academic competition, keeping students safe, comfortable, and focused on the purpose of their trip makes all the difference.

At FloridaTours.com, we’re proud to play our part in these journeys, ensuring that every mile traveled is another opportunity for learning, connection, and growth.
